Be Good to Your Spine

Schuler Shoes takes great pride in partnering with the medical community.  Almost daily, we meet wonderful medical professionals that support our mission…to get their patients and our customers in quality shoes that support the entire body from their feet up.  Dr. Una Forde offers a wonderful reminder of why we need to be good to our spine and explains what she does to help keep people healthy.

Dr. Forde explains:

As a Chiropractor, I am most concerned with spinal health because it affects every other part of the body. The spine is the pipe that protects our precious spinal cord.  Every nerve we need to feel and function is attached to the spinal cord through the vertebrae that make up the spinal column. Good spinal health is essential for mobility amd the vitality of your whole body. Most people take better care of their teeth than their spine.

When a patient feels pain, one of the first tools I use is called an adjustment, which returns the vertebrae to proper alignment. That relieves pressure on the nerves. I also use acupresssure to relieve pain in muscles from constricted blood flow. I also prescribe massage when necessary.

However, the most important tool in treatment, recovery and staying healthy is the patient who regularly gets an adjustment to avoid painful flareups that require more time to heal.

During an exam I check people’s feet to look for flat feet and fallen arches because that can affect the alignment of the legs. The alignment of the legs impacts a person’s gait. When a gait is wrong, the back muscles pull the vertebrae out of alignment causing pain. At that point, I may prescribe orthics to correct the foot and the gait. Patients with orthotics and good shoes have less back pain, feel better and have more mobility, which improves their quality of life.

Dr. Una Forde has 20 years of chiropractic experience. Because she believes the body responds better to treatment when a non-invasive method is used, her treatment style is gentle. With the use of applied kinesiology, cranial sacral, acupressure, acupuncture, and massage less forceful adjusting is needed. Nutrition counseling and health kinesiology enhance patient treatments. Dr. Forde sees patients at Golden Sun Chiropractic Wellness Center in Saint Louis Park. https://www.goldensunchiro.com
