Comfort & Foot Health

If the Shoe Fits…

For the past year, I have been recovering from Plantar Fasciitis, Tendonitis and a muscle strain from my big toe to my heel. I like to run…okay I love to run. Most days, I think to myself, I am going to do some other sort of exercise besides running. While I am weighing all of my options and trying to decide on the perfect alternative, I head out for a run. Because of this insane commitment to running, I ended up injuring myself. On a long run last spring, I started experiencing terrible heel pain. It felt like a nail was being hammered into the middle of my heel. I had no idea what was wrong with my foot.

I went online and was able to use medical resources to pinpoint what was going on. I visited a few doctors and based on my online research was able to understand what they were diagnosing and what steps would be taken to get me back to running. In the end, I wasn’t supporting my feet properly when I was running or when I was at home walking around bare feet on our hardwood floors.

As all of this was unfolding, Schuler Shoes approached me to manage their Medical Marketing initiative in the Twin Cities. Was it destiny or was it a coincidence? I don’t know, but it all made sense. My new job with Schuler Shoes was to build partnerships with the medical and wellness community, so that together we could offer discounts to patients and customers in need of proper footwear. People just like me, in desperate need of good footwear to help them lead healthy, active lifestyles.

My most current project, which brings me full circle to when I was researching my own foot issues, is posting information to the Schuler Shoes website about common foot issues, information on our Board Certified Pedorthist and this…our new blog. This new online resource has been created to help keep our customers informed on the latest trends and news in the area of foot health.

Check back often, as I will be conducting interviews with professionals in the medical and wellness community, information on latest trends, shoe news, Schuler news, store and local events and more.

And so, I can’t help but wonder how I got so lucky to end up in a job that means so much to me. Was it destiny…was it luck? I am not sure, but when I was offered the opportunity, I couldn’t help but think, well, if the shoe fits….
